"How do I submit a track?"

First visit "The Songs" page to find out what were taking submissions for this week.
Then follow directions below.

Please attach your MP3 track to an email and send it along with your contact information to:

Please include current contact information! This is very important. If you are the winner we need to be able to contact you in order to recieve a broadcast quality track of your performance, and for a couple other administrative necessities.

PLEASE INCLUDE:

-Your REAL name (not your user name)
-Phone number
-Email address
-Song you are performing on


ALL TRACKS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED IN MP3 FORMAT.

NO OTHER FORMATS ARE SUPPORTED AT THIS TIME.

IF YOU SEND ANY OTHER FILE TYPE YOUR SUBMISSION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

ALL TRACKS SHOULD START AT ZERO.

When you are recording your track, always start your recording at zero. For example: even if your part doesn't come in until after along intro, you must begin recording at zero and then just start playing at the time your part begins. Any tracks recieved that do not start at zero will not be considered.



"What instruments are accepted under MELODY? or LOW END?"

Here's the breakdown of instruments and the catagories they are in:

  • Lead
  • Back-up
  • Choir

  • Guitar (Electric or Acoustic, including banjo, mandolin, ect...)
  • Orchestral Strings (ex.Violin or Cello)
  • Piano & Keyboard
  • Woodwind and Brass (ex. Saxophone, Trumpet, Flute)

and any other instrument you can create a melody or accompanying harmony.

  • Guitar (Electric or Acoustic, including banjo, mandolin, ect...)
  • Orchestral Strings (ex.Violin or Cello)
  • Piano & Keyboard
  • Woodwind and Brass (ex. Saxophone, Trumpet, Flute)

and any other instrument you can create a melody or accompanying harmony.

  • Beat Boxing
  • Drum Kits
  • Bongos
  • DJ's & Mixers
  • Loops and Samples

or anything that would give the song a "BEAT".

  • Bass Guitar
  • Bass Violin
  • Synth Bass lines
  • Tuba
or anything that carries the LOW END of the song.


Directions for recording and submiting a track for those who have no recording eqip/software or recording experience.

1. Download the MP3 of the song you want to submit to. These files are located on the Songs Page.

2. Now you need to record your part. If you do not already own a music recording program, we can offer a couple free recorders. Information on these programs is available on our Recording Software Page. Download the program of your choice.

Directions to download Audacity:

  • Click the link to download Audacity, located on the Recording Software Page.
  • This will take you to the Audacity Website. Choose the file type for your operating system, and follow the prompts to save this program to your computer.

Now open Audacity.Then click file, and choose open.

From the dialouge box that appears, select the mp3 file you downloaded from the songs page and click open.

It will open up in audacity as a stereo file, as shown below

  • Plug your instrument or micrphone into your computer.
  • (most all computers have a microphone input that can be used for elecrtic instruments or a microphone to record an instrument/vocals)

  • When you click the record button,(button with the round red cirle) the song starts playing, a new track will automatically open and, this track will be recording whatever's pluged into the mic input on your computer. Now you can play your part, and your recording will appear as shown below.

  • You can UNDO your recording by pressing Ctrl Z or edit/undo and re-record the part as many times as you want.

4. Always start your recording at the beginning of the song, even if your part doesn't come in right away.

***NOTE***

The first time you use Audacity you will have the choice to download and install a file that will allow Audacity to export files as an MP3. Here are those instructions, and following are directions on exporting files from Audacity as an MP3.

How do I download and install the LAME MP3 encoder?

Because of software patents, we cannot distribute MP3 encoding software ourselves. Follow these instructions to use the free LAME encoder to export MP3 files with Audacity.
Windows

1. Go to the LAME download page.
2. Under "For Audacity on Windows", left-click on the link "libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip" and save the zip folder to anywhere on your computer.
3. When you have finished downloading the ZIP folder, unzip it and save the file lame_enc.dll that it contains to anywhere on your computer.
4. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where lame_enc.dll is saved.

Mac OS 9 or X

1. Go to the LAME download page.
2. Click to download either "Lame Library v3.98.2 for Audacity on OSX.dmg" or "LameLib-Carbon.sit", according to your operating system.
3. Double-click the .dmg to extract "Lame Library v3.98.2 for Audacity on OSX.pkg" to Finder, or use Stuffit to extract "LameLib" from the .sit (either of these may happen automatically).
4. Double-click the .pkg to install "libmp3lame.dylib" in /usr/local/lib/audacity, or save "LameLib" anywhere on your computer.
5. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where libmp3lame.dylib or LameLib is saved.

Linux/Unix
Follow these instructions on our Wiki to download and install a suitable LAME package from the internet.

5. Now you will export the part you recorded.

  • Click only the track you recorded, and choose file.
  • Highlight the track you recorded and then choose Export Selection as MP3.
  • You will be prompted to save the file.
  • Change the name to include: the song title or number, your name, and the instrument you are playing.
  • Save the file to your computer.

6. Please attach your MP3 track to an email and send it along with your contact information to:
